6 months Indian baby diet plan

At 6 months old, babies typically begin to transition to solid foods while continuing to breastfeed or receive formula. Here's a basic guide for introducing solid foods to a 6-month-old Indian baby:

**1. Start with Single-Ingredient Foods:**

Introduce single-ingredient, iron-rich foods one at a time. Wait a few days before introducing a new food to watch for any allergic reactions. Good first foods include:

- **Rice Cereal:** Prepare rice cereal by mixing rice powder with breast milk or formula.

- **Mashed Fruits:** Start with soft fruits like mashed banana, apple sauce, or ripe mango.

- **Mashed Vegetables:** Cook and mash or purée vegetables like sweet potato, carrot, or pumpkin.

**2. Gradually Increase Textures:**

As your baby gets used to eating solids, gradually increase the texture and consistency of the foods. You can start offering slightly thicker purées and mashed foods.

**3. Include Protein-Rich Foods:**

Introduce protein-rich foods like well-cooked and puréed lentils (dal) and finely minced or puréed cooked chicken or fish.

**4. Avoid Common Allergens:**

Be cautious with allergenic foods like cow's milk, eggs, nuts, and wheat. Introduce these one at a time and observe your baby's reaction.

**5. Introduce Finger Foods:**

Around 8-9 months, start introducing soft finger foods like small pieces of well-cooked vegetables, soft fruits, and small bites of well-cooked pasta or rice.

**6. Continue Breastfeeding or Formula:**

Solids should complement, not replace, breast milk or formula, which should remain the primary source of nutrition until at least the first year.

**7. Pay Attention to Baby's Signals:**

Observe your baby's cues to know when they are full or ready for more. Babies have varying appetites, so don't force them to eat.

**8. Hydration:**

You can offer a few sips of water in a sippy cup, especially if your baby seems thirsty. However, breast milk or formula provides most of the hydration needed at this age.

Always consult your pediatrician before introducing new foods to your baby's diet, especially if there's a family history of allergies. They can provide guidance based on your baby's individual needs and development.
